The President of the Generalitat in Catalunya, Quim Torra, has visited the Eurecat headquarters in Cerdanyola del Valles, in order to get to know first hand the work carried out by the technology center in front of the Covid-19. Eurecat has put its facilities and equipment at the service of society and the industrial and business fabric, in order to develop innovation projects in the face of the new scenario.

In this sense, he has participated in numerous projects and initiatives such as the testing of materials for the manufacture of masks in solidarity to help alleviate the needs of this type of protection. This process has ensured a local production that has been very helpful and that will be strategic in the face of possible regrowth.

The technology center has also contributed its knowledge in Artificial Intelligence to the fight against pandemics through the analysis of wastewater and has contributed with innovations in telemedicine and disinfection technologies, as well as in the development of the respirator Q -Wind. Other lines of work at the technology center range from touchless solutions and viricidal surfaces to the provision of training and online webinars to offer high value-added content.

The Eurecat headquarters in Cerdanyola has taken part in the design and production process of the Aleu mask, which is reusable and reconfigurable by means of filters that allow the FPP2 and FPP3 degrees of protection against coronavirus to be achieved. Her name has been chosen in honor of Dr. Dolors Aleu, the first woman with a degree in Medicine in Spain.

They were accompanied by the President of the Generalitat, the Mayor of Cerdanyola, Carles Cordon; the Director General of Industry, Matilde Villarroya; the president of Eurecat, Xavier Torra; the General Manager of Corporate and Operations, Xavier López, and the General Manager of Business, Miquel Rey.

“During the hardest days of the pandemic, as president, I was very interested in the different initiatives that were being carried out from the country to fight Covid-19. I made calls here and there, and when I went deeper I always found someone from Eurecat involved “, the president of the Generalitat underlined during the event.

“The collective energy that we were able to mobilize during the confinement must not be demobilized”, because “we need it more than ever in this phase of economic reactivation and in the construction of the country of opportunities that we all dream of” , he added. As the head of the Executive has explained, “there has been a B-side of the tragedy” which is “the face of solidarity and the magnificent Catalan social, economic, cultural and business fabric that, as always, in the face of ‘an emergency, it is able to mobilize and get to work together to find solutions’. In his speech, the President of Eurecat emphasized the commitment of the technology center “to maintain its intense activity to continue promoting the country’s innovation”, in the face of the new scenario.

“Now more than ever, it’s important to be agile in the face of changes, and technology plays a key role,” he said. To facilitate this, he noted, Eurecat is “strengthening support for the company, to help identify new needs and trends, in order to transform them into innovation projects and opportunities.” In his words, “there are challenges that can’t wait, so now more than ever is the time to bet on the path of technological innovation, large-scale cooperation and industry.”
